{"id":8982,"date":"2021-09-19T10:53:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-19T10:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/science.msu.ac.th\/en\/?p=8982"},"modified":"2022-02-07T03:41:50","modified_gmt":"2022-02-07T03:41:50","slug":"five-new-species-of-the-land-snail-from-northeastern-thailand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/science.msu.ac.th\/en\/five-new-species-of-the-land-snail-from-northeastern-thailand\/","title":{"rendered":"Five New Species of the Land Snail from Northeastern Thailand"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SCIMSU researchers has discovered five new species of land snails in the world from the northeastern region of Thailand.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size dropcapp\"><strong>Assistant Professor Dr<\/strong> <strong>Chanidaporn Tumpeesuwan<\/strong> and <strong>Assistant Professor Dr <strong>Sakboworn Tumpeesuwan<\/strong><\/strong>, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Mahasarakham University, along with Dr. Benchawan Nahok, Srinakharinwirot University, Ongkharak Campus, discovered five new species of the land snail genus Landouria Godwin-Austen, 1918 (Gastropoda, Camaenidae) from northeastern Thailand, in addition to the discovery in 2019\u00a0at Loei and Khon Kaen provinces. The five new species are <strong><em>Landouria circinata <\/em>Nahok <em>et al<\/em>., 2021; <em>Landouria tuberculata <\/em>Nahok <em>et a<\/em>l., 2021; <em>Landouria trochomorphoides <\/em>Nahok <em>et al.<\/em>, 2021; <em>Landouria chloritoides <\/em>Nahok<em> et al<\/em>., 2021; <\/strong>and<strong> <em>Landouria elegans <\/em>Nahok<em> et al<\/em>., 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size dropcapp\">This research shows that the limestone mountain region and the sandstone mountains in northeastern Thailand are areas with more hidden biodiversity waiting to be discovered. If people and governments help to preserve their local natural areas, these valuable resources awaiting scientific discovery could be used for value-added research for sustainable use in the future.
